Fun in the Smokies

Summer is not summer with out a road trip! Last week, Wendy and Lindsay hit the road to attend the 2012 ABC Southern Construction Expo in the Smokies held at the Wilderness in the Smokies Lodge (hint, this is the one with all of the huge waterslides!) It was a lot of fun to catch up with friends and clients, shoot some golf (with cameras of course), attend the BBQ…and yes, go down a few waterslides. We also caught up with one of our pilots from Memphis who took us on a  helicopter ride in the Long Ranger…quite a treat!

Other highlights include Lindsay going up on a 120ft lift (yikes!) , Wendy driving some sort of construction equipment (hey, if it doesn’t fly what do we know??) and Lindsay checking out something that looks like a camera (again…what do we know??)  Here are a few photos from our excursion. Road Trip, Summer 09′!

Where in the world are we??

Are we there yet???

Summer was made for road trips and this summer we hit the road!  The girls from Tennessee were seen in over 11 states from north & south to way out west.

Coral kicked back with Todd’s family in Ocean City Maryland..ohhh…the crabs!  And played surfer girl-friend in NYC, stopping off for some fine art at MOMA.

Deanna had a week long road trip from TN to SC back to KY.  They started at the Biltmore (Brady can build that!), built sandcastles in South Carolina (need an aerial, Eden??) and finished up in Kentucky with a belated wedding reception.

Lindsay did the western thing and brought back the most beautiful images by far (our budding photographer!) Starting in Boulder, she made her way through the Rocky Mountains, Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon and stopped for beers on the shores of Lake Powell.

Rachel and Robert headed to the outerbanks for some bike riding through Okracoke and past the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse…dogs included!

Phew…we’re almost done! just one more trip to go…

Wendy celebrated the fourth in Pittsburgh with family and a New England style clambake…the lobsters were divine.  Later in the summer, the photo girls from Atlanta headed down to Gulfport and Biloxi.  Everyone came back a winner (well…almost….).  With one last hurrah this summer, she’ll be heading out to Bald Head, NC for a family reunion…no hurricanes!!!

Hope y’all had a great summer, too. Check out the photos and stay tuned!

Lindsay in NYC

This is my blog. This is my very first blog so please bear with me. Over New Years I found myself in the big city lights of New York, NY. Wow what a treat for this small town girl! Riding the subway, going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, THE PIZZA, THE SHOPPING, and fast-paced shuffle of cab horns and crowds made a city girl out of me for four days. It was such a good time I decided to “blog” it. I can now call myself a “blogger”. I now see for obvious reasons why my journey in life and work has led me to Aerial Innovations; I need to learn how to take a decent photo. For those of you interested, there were only 6 suitable for posting. I thought when I took my pictures they were good! The display on my Kodak 36 mm made my photos look great. Only after coming back to work did I realize my little camera and my picture taking skills need some focus….no pun intended. All in all, New York was such an amazing experience and I wanted to use this forum to share with anyone interested. Amazing as it was I was glad to be back with my gals at AI. And also more interested than ever, am I, in learning from these talented photographers. Thanks for listening…..or reading, rather. Watch for my progression as a decent photographer.

Out with the Old…

..in with the New Year!  Wishing everyone a Happy New Year from the folks in Tennessee.  We have been very blessed this year to continue photographing for loyal clients as well as some fantastic new ones.  We anticipate feeling a bit of a slow down in 2009 but we are ready with new products and new creative work….all to keep us flying!

Our wish is that we all hang in there together and keep our mission of providing quality photography.  (And our resolutions we are keeping to ourselves, just know that they are at 300 DPI!…hee hee).  Peace, love and hope to all!!!

Getting in on Christmas

Lindsay making some dough!

Lindsay making some dough!

Happy Holidays from Nashville!  This year, as always, we have donned our Santa hats and spread some cheer to our clients and friends with Snicker’s Cookies and Almond Crunch. (this year we added biscotti).  This tradition started in 2003 when we were short on funds and had loads of time.  Now, a little shorter on time than funds, we still like to indulge in this tradition (ok, and some people “expect” them now and who are we to disappoint!)  Read on for the super secret recipe for Almond Crunch and some fun photos from cookie making!

In addition to expanding out waistlines, we are opening our hearts to the local YWCA Womens’ Shelter.  Lindsay and Rachel will be donating much needed items for women in need.  We are in touch with the organization through the work our ABC Chapter’s Emerging Leaders program.

As we head into 2009, we are filled with hope and optimism for the future (how else can you get out of bed!) We are excited to be reaching out to new markets, exploring new technologies, and growing as a company, as photographers and as members of our community.  Now…who ate the last cookie!!??!!

Almond Cruch Recipe – (Do not give this to Wendy’s Mom!)

1 Cup Butter, 2 1/4 Cup Sugar, 1/2 Cup Water, 1/2 tsp Salt, 1 Tablespoon Vinegar, 2 Cups chopped Almonds, 1 tsp baking soda, Melted Chocolate

Place butter, sugar, water, salt & vinegar into a saucepan and heat to 290 degrees (use a candy thermometer). Remove from stove, immediately mix in the almonds and baking soda and pour into a buttered 18×12 baking sheet (you only have a few minutes!)  Cool and then cover with a thin layer of melted chocolate.  Cool again and, using a knife, break into pieces (it does not break cleanly).  Enjoy!

Crazy Good Snicker’s Cookies

1Cup Peanut Butter, 1Cup Butter, 1Cup Sugar, 1Cup Brown Sugar, 2 Eggs, 2 Tablespoons Vanilla, 3Cups Flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp baking powder, 40-50 miniature Snicker’s Candy Bars, 1Cup Powdered Sugar, 2 Tablespoons cocoa, 1-2 Tablespoons Milk

For the Cookie: Mix Peanut Butter, Butter, Sugar & Brown Sugar until well blended.  Add eggs and vanilla. In a separate bowl combine flour, baking soda and baking powder.  Slowly add to the peanut butter mixture. Roll Dough into round balls and flatten using the palm of your hand.  Wrap this dough around the Snicker’s and roll into a ball again, making sure all of the candy bar is covered.  Place on an ungreased cookie sheet & bake for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees.  Let cool about 10 minutes and place on parchment paper.

For the Glaze: Mix powdered sugar, cocoa and 1T of milk (add more to get a “glaze” consistancy if needed) Drizzle over cookies. Enjoy!

When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Goats

Happy Holidays from the Aerial Innovations Tampa Crew! We’re busy little fly-elves this season. We had a photo contest to design our Holiday card and Tacy Briggs won first place. Coming in a close second is Amanda Rigby and Jenny Brockwell who tied. Tacy’s image became our card. We made laser copies of Amanda’s and Jenny B’s photos and they are being sent out with all the December projects.

Instead of giving out candy this year, we’re “going green” and delivering festive bags of tangerines and red and green apples to our local clients. We don’t want any tooth-aches for the Holidays!

Instead of giving gifts to each other in the office, we’re giving the gift of a goat to a needy family in a poor country. We collected money in our office and are donating it to Heifer International, a charitable organization that purchases farm animals such as goats, sheep, ducks, cows, llamas, rabbits and chickens. They give them to families in need who then use their milk, eggs, wool or meat. Please stop by www.heifer.org to see what a wonderful organization this is!

Happy Holidays from Aerial Innovations, Tampa!
