This is our first Aerial Photography Convention and I am not sure, but I think it will be a bit smaller than the World of Concrete event held here a month or so ago. I may be wrong..we will see.

The highlights of the conference will definitely be the night flight down the strip, seeing all the great images in the print competition, meeting our colleagues and trying to handle information overload. Rodger will be winning back our cost for the trip as Will and I try hard to get as much out of this conference as possible.

…so, Vegas, ready or not here we come!

The Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville is hosting an exhibit by Aerial Innovations of TN, Inc, a professional Aerial & Architectural Photography Company. This is the first major exhibit by Aerial Innovations which was first on display at the Arts at the Airport series in 2009 and 2010. The Arts & Business Council has just celebrated their third year of driving collaboration between the arts & businesses in Nashville. The aerial images of the Gateway Bridge, Nashville at Dawn and Tim’s Ford lake are a perfect fit for these two up and coming organizations in the arts community.

We at Aerial Innovations would like to thank the Arts & Business Coucil for exhibiting our work. We look forward to promoting this great organization! The exhibit will run through March 2011. Example Galleries: Want to know what are capabilities are? Browse here and you will get a pretty good idea of our past work. Normally, there are too many images to put on a web site and they become outdated quickly. Now, we can keep a current portfolio going to better promote our services.

Feature Galleries: Sometimes, it takes more than one image to capture a project or company. In our feature galleries, we will be highlighting key projects and companies we have the privilege of working with. This allows us to share images that truly capture what goes into a project. We have also set up galleries for the organization Rebuilding Together Nashville and for the East Nashville Tomato Art Festival.

Events: We love to get out and cover construction industry events. It gives us a chance to participate and meet people in a more relaxed atmosphere. Normally, we would deliver a CD to the host of the event who would then distribute the images. Now, images are available on line for sharing through social media or for purchase.

Client Delivery: Web Galleries are a great secure way to transfer multiple images to our clients. Normally, we would use several emails to accomplish this. Now, we can set up a gallery, create an archive of past images and send one notification to a client soon after shooting.

Stock Images: We have spent over 7 years documenting your projects. Want to see images for viewing? Let us know the project and we will create a gallery where you can view images, share with others on your team and purchase for display or marketing use. Cool, huh?

Creative Images: Our monthly flights take us over some amazing visuals. We have a collection of creative images that we enjoy viewing and have posted these on Stock Sites in the past. Now, we are creating a catalog of these images. They are stunning and we are looking forward to sharing these.

Aerial Innovations of TN, Inc. has photographed the festival for four years which gives us an opportunity to see almost every event. This year five photographers, Wendy, Will, Lindsay, Erin & husband Jason took to the streets to capture over 2000 images. We have edited it down to about 500 and are in the process of production and uploading them to flickr…stay tuned!

Interior of Cessna Zero Hotel

Delta XRay sits pinned to earth under a tree. Zero Hotel has a gate laying across the wheels as if someone had tried to build a cage around her. This is the devastation that the flood of 2010 brought to Cornelia Fort Airpark in East Nashville. The waters rose from almost a half a mile away to flood the runway, the field & the FBO with almost seven feet of water. Nothing prepared anyone for how far the waters would reach. Nothing prepared me for the sights of what was left of Colemill’s fleet. Nothing prepared me for the tears that welled up as I walked out on the muddy taxiways.

Cornelia Fort has been linked to Aerial Innovations of TN, Inc. since it’s inception. I walked into Colemill (the FBO on the field) almost seven years ago to the day asking…no, stating, that I would like to see their aircraft and talk to their pilots..I was starting an aerial photography company and would need their services. A little cocky, for sure, but with the dreams I had of being successful in the aerial photography business, I needed some guts. And with Colemill, over the next seven years, we did see succeed thanks to the pilots & trusty (at times) aircraft.

As photographers, we flew countless hours out of Cornelia Fort in the three cessnas; Bravo Tango, Delta XRay and Zero Hotel. Like everyone at the small airport, they each had their own personality. Bravo Tango would take you the farthest, Zero Hotel may or may not be in maintenance, and always check the seats for water. Ironic. Flying out over Shelby Bottoms and Opryland, talking to BNA, the Nashville skyline coming into view over the neighborhoods of East Nashville…it felt like home. And Colemill was home to so many; pilots, mechanics, plane owners..assorted characters that made up a family. Dysfunctional at times, but a family. The photographers of Aerial Innovations were a part of that.

I know there are so many who lost lives and loved ones in this tragedy….it seems silly to lament a struggling business, a forgotten airfield and a few planes on their last wings. But there are people tied to this place who have lost so much as well…jobs, their business, their savings tied up in aircraft, their homes. Will we ever fly out of the Fort again? Who knows… I would like to think so. But it will take time and someone to see the potential in her again. So for now it is goodbye as we help our neighbors and communities come back from the flood and we will hope that Cornelia Fort will rise again with the rest of Nashville.
