Aerial Innovations of Tenn, Inc.

The Liberty Bell, a World War II era B-17, has been touring around airports in Tennessee.  We got a chance to catch her out at the Smyrna Airport this weekend.  Although I was not lucky enough to take it for a spin (what’s a ride in another aircraft??), those that did got to crawl around into the gunner seats and took a tour round the lake.

Here are some photos from their stop.  The woman pictured with the vintage flight hat is the granddaughter of one of many men who served on this flying fortress. Enjoy!

Are we there yet???

Summer was made for road trips and this summer we hit the road!  The girls from Tennessee were seen in over 11 states from north & south to way out west.

Coral kicked back with Todd’s family in Ocean City Maryland..ohhh…the crabs!  And played surfer girl-friend in NYC, stopping off for some fine art at MOMA.

Deanna had a week long road trip from TN to SC back to KY.  They started at the Biltmore (Brady can build that!), built sandcastles in South Carolina (need an aerial, Eden??) and finished up in Kentucky with a belated wedding reception.

Lindsay did the western thing and brought back the most beautiful images by far (our budding photographer!) Starting in Boulder, she made her way through the Rocky Mountains, Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon and stopped for beers on the shores of Lake Powell.

Rachel and Robert headed to the outerbanks for some bike riding through Okracoke and past the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse…dogs included!

Phew…we’re almost done! just one more trip to go…

Wendy celebrated the fourth in Pittsburgh with family and a New England style clambake…the lobsters were divine.  Later in the summer, the photo girls from Atlanta headed down to Gulfport and Biloxi.  Everyone came back a winner (well…almost….).  With one last hurrah this summer, she’ll be heading out to Bald Head, NC for a family reunion…no hurricanes!!!

Aerial Innovations of Georgia, Inc. would like to thank Benjamin C. Ridgeway for including our aerial photographs in his book documenting the history of  Ebenezer Baptist Church. Ebenezer (Stone of Help) was founded in 1886 in the old Fourth Ward of Atlanta. Michael Luther King moved to Atlanta from Stockbridge, Georgia in 1918, began his three-year minister’s degree program at the Morehouse School of Religion in 1926. He married Alberta Williams that same year at Ebenezer Church. After being assistant pastor from 1927 to 1930 he assumed the duties of pastor in 1931. Reverend King, Sr. changed his name from Michael Luther King to Martin Luther King Sr. after his fathers death in 1933.  In 1960, Martin Luther King Jr. became the first co-pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Horizon Sanctuary at Ebenezer Baptist Church

The Atlanta architectural firm of Stanley, Love-Stanley was chosen to design the Horizon Sanctuary. It is modeled after an African tribal meeting hut. The roof ribbing is reminiscent of African thatch. The bell tower is a weave and glyph patterned obelisk. Placement of the Horizon Sanctuary on Auburn Avenue emphases Ebenezer’s strong commitment to its urban mission as a becon of hope for all citizens of Metro Atlanta.

I always knew I liked Louisville, Kentucky. I had spent most of my time there breezing through the Palace Theater for three seperate concert occasions. When asked to go for an event for work I gladly signed myself up. And it was my first out-of-town trip with Rachel which made it special. One very common theme we couldn’t help noticing was the amount of ‘po po’ on our journey up 65. We lost count somewhere around 10 or 12 so be careful if you are traveling that stretch because the cops are out in full effect. After touring the city a while I was surprised at our progressive Louisville is. There is so much art and invention going on. They have a set up where you can rent a bicycle to get around downtown during the day which I found delightful. We visited the Muhammid Ali Center which has some very cool architecture going on and the 21c Hotel which is unique and innovative. I suggest anyone traveling through Louisville to stop and check it out. Probably the biggest perk we enjoyed was staying at the Brown Hotel. I have to give a shout out to priceline for hooking us up! The Brown is a historic 4 star hotel downtown. I would describe it as whimsical and classic at the same time. I could go on but I’ll stop here and leave the pictures to tell the rest of the story. Oh, and the work event, ICSC, was a blast too….but we wrote all about our time there in our Emmas so I reserved the blog to rock and roll a little bit. Cheers!

Comments about Arts at the Airport Exhibit

The Nashville International Airport has just installed their latest exhibit, “Aerial Innovations” in the C Concourse Food Court.  The images are by Aerial Innovations of TN, Inc. photographers of Nashville, Middle Tennessee and the Icon Project.  There is also a wall of our favorite Aerial Abstracts.

We began this morning with a last minute dash to Dury’s Framing to replace a wire hangar with d-rings (always something last minute!) then off to the airport to drop off.  The Marty Stuart Exhibit was going out and we were coming in.  The hanging crew worked fast!  Many thanks to Dawson, Duncan and Mike for making it happen.  And upstairs at the airport, Karen was printing the signage…they look great, too.  Caroline and Wendy supervised, made a few changes but for the most part, all went as planned.

If you are traveling through Nashville in the next year, come by and check it out!  Show will be up until July 2010.

Arts at the Airport

So on Tuesday our VP, Julie, came in with a horror story of how her eight-year-old son, Jared, cracked his head on the edge of the sidewalk the night before while playing tackle football in the neighborhood.  Doing what head-wounds do, blood was pouring down his head and back while a neighborhood dad tried to stop it with a handful of gauze.  Julie took Jared to the emergency room where he received five staples to close it up.  And um, yeah, with no local anesthesia.  He later said that the first two didn’t hurt too bad, but he cried during the last three.  It’s OK though, he’s a tough little guy. 

Of course, being the creative photographers that we are, we couldn’t pass up a photo-op.  When Julie picked Jared up from school the next day we did a nice close-up shot of the staples – gore and all.

To make him feel better we decided to make him a special present.  We thought he could use a motivational poster to commemorate the event.  You know, just in case the scar wasn’t going to be enough of a memory.

We heard he liked it so much that he took it around with him and showed all his friends and neighbors.  Go Jared!!!
